Currently, the CUAA First-Class Majors Ranking Among Chinese Universities is a ranking for undergraduate majors of Chinese universities. The Ranking has been released for 8 consecutive years and features the largest number of participating universities and the largest scale of participating majors. Nearly 60,000 majors from 1,236 colleges and universities in China participated in the evaluation for the 2022 ranking, covering more than 730 undergraduate majors of 92 categories under 12 types.
The Ranking consists of five evaluation indicators: discipline grade, education quality, teaching capabilities, major grade, and major influence. The indicators cover over 100 evaluation and observation sub-indicators, including those for the selected disciplines of China's Double First-Class initiative, discipline evaluation results of the Ministry of Education of China, sites for China's first-class undergraduate major construction, outstanding alumni, and outstanding teachers.
Adhering to category-based and level-based evaluation principles, the Ranking classifies majors into research-oriented and application-oriented and evaluates them according to China's school-running positioning for higher education, the construction level of disciplines and majors of each university, and the development positioning of undergraduate majors of universities. Based on the star-rating system for undergraduate majors in China, the Ranking carried out the grade-based major evaluation for Chinese universities for the first time this year. The Ranking offers 8 grades (A++, A+, A, B++, B+, B, C, and D) for undergraduate majors of Chinese universities according to the overall ranking, percentage of the ranking, and the star rating.
